What’s Around the Bend?

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

bankSo many do not move forward with their lives because they are afraid of what may lie around the corner.  This is why so many attain much less than is their potential.  The following quote elegantly says it another way.

“Never mistake a clear view for a short distance.” ~ Paul Saffo

Attaining great things in your life begins with a deep inner feeling… an abstract sense, not a well defined road map.

Set your course beyond the horizon of what is clearly visible, and then go there. Fear of the unknown is the next great hurdle of human evolution.  No great artist ever knew exactly what a painting would look like before they finished it.

Why spend your life scrounging for crumbs?  Your domain is the universe. Enlightenment is not a notion to be put in a shoebox in your closet to be taken out and marveled over only upon occasion.  It is what lies just beyond the horizon. Aspire to that. It is your birthright.

Can you see how the following two quotes relate?

“Generosity with strings is not generosity.  It is a deal.”  – Marya Mannes

“Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”  – Winston Churchill

Autoimmune 2

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

cowI was asked a question in comments to my autoimmune blog to which I responded:

Once a mode of function is established in the physiology, it can be difficult to remove it. After the physiology is ‘healed’ the memory remains. Even when the initial cause is gone, some degree of predisposition to the old habit is still there. Then again, is the initial cause in this sense ever really ‘gone’? The psyche too has its residuals. In this regard it is best not to think in terms of complete and total healing. There is always some level of tendency to return to that which is familiar.

Everything is everywhere. You are one with everything. Everything is there within you. Unity does not mean unity with the things you think are good and elimination of the things you do not. It means unity with everything. So healing is not about the removal of this and that. It is about the physiology having a ‘healthy relationship with…’ this and that. Of course, a healthy relationship with many things is to keep them at a distance, but not to deny the nature of their presence in your world. Life is indeed subtle.

There is a notion that energetic cords get created between people in relationship. If the relationship goes wrong, energy ‘healers’ sometimes think of removing or cutting those cords. That is actually not possible. In this sense, cords eternally exist between all things in existence. We are all one. Better to think in terms of cleaning the cords rather than attempting to eliminate that which is, in reality, eternal. A healthy relationship with people is to keep them each at the appropriate distance (i.e. have healthy boundaries) while at the same time being awake to the level where we are all one. Humanity has a great deal to learn about healthy boundaries, both culturally and socially.  The word that comes to mind is “integrity”. This becomes spontaneous as the level of ones evolution rises.

Autoimmune Disorders

Monday, May 28th, 2012

AbstractI was asked to comment on the psychodynamics of autoimmune disorders.

People sometimes associate physical disorders with psychodynamic patterns.  It is sometimes accurate.

Regarding autoimmune disorders, the body is attacking itself.  The idea then would be that one is attacking ones self psychodynamically, perhaps some sort of self-loathing or self-judgment on some level.  It is generally cloaked with denial.  You need to decide for yourself if this applies to you and if so how.

Similarly, allergies to the environment can imply aversion to what is around you. Again, one must decide for ones self if this applies to them or not.

More on Politics and the Presidency

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

dumpsterRegarding the blog ‘How to win the Presidential Election”: Some found it funny.  Some found it sad.  The comments were interesting.  The Will Rogers and Mark Twain quotes help us understand that this sort of political behavior has been the case for a long time.

When children bicker, we see past it so easily.  We do not judge or get depressed about it.  We even sometimes chuckle over the absurdity. Similarly, we must see beyond the tussles between political parties, individuals, and nations.  Your vision of a current situation must be clear for you to deal with it wisely.  To catch people in the web of political polarity is the trap used by the powers that be (the rakshasa value) to perpetuate the status quo.  Political candidates are merely actors in the play.

Though it is right for us to tend to it on its own level, we must see beyond it. To heal a problem, it must be understood… just as children bickering must be seen through the eyes of an adult to be dealt with wisely. As Albert Einstein said, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”

The status quo can, must, and will evolve.  That is our purpose. That is our duty.  Responsibility means the ability to respond.  Evolution of consciousness is the way.  We have the knowledge of the means.  We have the ability to respond.

How to Win the Presidential Election

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

“I don’t make jokes.  I just watch Washington and report the facts.” Will Rogers.

mockingbirdTo win the presidential election:

• Think primarily of 30 second sound bites.

• Do not hesitate to lie.  Very few people have the time to research the facts and even those who do will not be believed if you come across better on camera than they do.

• Determine what most people want to believe and tell them that.

• Do not hesitate to tell one special interest group one thing and another something else. When confronted about the hypocrisy, say with great conviction and authority, something that makes no sense and stand by it.

• Whatever your opponent says about you, say the same about them.

• Ignore the truth and the facts. Claim anything that will get you elected.

• Go for the money… use it to buy the election.

• If someone tells you your facts are incorrect, tell them their facts are incorrect.

• Pay maximum attention to how you hold yourself and how you look on camera.  That is what gets the votes.  Be cool, calm, and collected.  Pretend like you are in a Hollywood movie.

• Smile… it is not an election of substance… it is an election of charisma.
We live in Kali Yuga.

Curiosity

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

around schoolIt is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education. – Albert Einstein

At times it feels like this quote is only barely the case.  My teachings are generally held up to the measuring tape of others indoctrinations.  The trick is to look through your education to see what lies beyond it.  To do so is to be a visionary.

In this regard, most are far too nearsighted, evaluating the horizon in terms of that which is immediately at hand.  This is no disrespect to those who preceded us.  In fact, to not look through and beyond is to disrespect the value of what they have given.

Only the live tree bears fruit.

The Voice of God

Karthikeya

With my cultural upbringing, the idea of speaking with God seemed too far-fetched for me to accept.  That, compounded with the New Age channels and ‘psychics’, left me with a great deal of skepticism.

Yet when I was told by Holy men on several different occasions that I spoke the language of the Gods, I knew what they were talking about.  I was confronted by all of this directly when Pandit Prasad told me I should go to the temple every morning and speak with Shiva.  Though many astounding confirmations of what He said came forth, I was still uncomfortable talking about it.

This morning when I was doing my mantras at the temple, I could feel Lord Shiva calling me to sit.  By now, I know that feeling and knew He has something to say.  I sat and he proceeded to clarify the issue as follows.

Super ego is a term from psychology that refers to the inner voices of authority you hear inside your head.  It is your mother, father, teacher, role model, etc. speaking. It is the words of those you have taken on as an authority figure.  It is riddled with your and their samskaras… their limited thinking… their conditioning… their distortions. Now that is not to say that you should not listen to the wisdom and guidance they offer, but that is another topic.

The point here is that if you remove the samskaras as per Vasistha’s discourses in the Yoga Vasistha, then what the super ego becomes is the word of God.  It is only our stresses and strains, i.e. our conditioned and limited thinking that prevents us from hearing God’s words clearly.

The Gods do not speak in our worldly language.  They speak directly to your soul as sublime inner knowings within your soul.  When your inner knowings cease to be colored by the surface of your life, and instead become expressions of the Divinity within, you understand the language of the Gods, and they will speak to you. This is on Their terms, not the terms of your small self.

To hear the Gods speak, to know the language of the Gods, the small self must cease to be.  It must become only a virtual image projected upon the field of maya, there only in order to interface with the world of maya.

When your super ego becomes your Super Ego, you can speak to the Gods.

Discourse on Devotion and Enlightenment

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

plantsIf you are enjoying my blogs, please make it a point to read the comments.  I often add my own comments in response to them.  It is sometimes a lively interchange with those who choose to participate.  I welcome you to join in or just monitor the interactions.

Recently, I added this response in comments to the Devotion blog:

My devotion along the path was to knowledge… to truth. I was not the least bit biased or vested in what I found… how it looked… or where I had to go to find it. My pursuit was for understanding… not over-standing. “I” was completely secondary to “Truth.” What I found left me in total awe. In that moment “I” ceased to exist, though it took time rest with it. That is to say it required a period of time for me to adjust. In fact, it is fair to say that there are not really levels of enlightenment… there are just levels of getting accustomed to it once it is gained.

When it first happened, I had to reconstruct everything I thought I knew. Everything changed. My “spiritual knowledge” was turned upside down and inside out. And that was after much study of spiritual books and the teachings of masters.

In a talk I gave yesterday at a meditation retreat here at Mount Soma, I went further into the discussion.  I will ask the Mount Soma staff to make that recording available and post here in comments how you can receive it.

Tomorrow (Sunday, May 20, 2012) I will be going to Carey, NC, to address a group at an international conference on Vedic studies and culture.  If possible, we will make a recording available.

Also, I am thinking to make live video of my lectures available on the internet.  We will look into the practical aspects of making that happen.

Am I really in control of my own life?

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

landscapeI was asked the following question:

I was in Deep thought the other day and I couldn’t get the words of Maharishi Raman out of my head. “The ideas of purpose and responsibility are purely social in nature and are created by mind to exhort Ego. God is above all such ideas. If God is immanent in all and there is no one except him, who is responsible for whom? Creation is expression of inherent laws in the source of creation.” This just kept bring up the question, “Am I really in control of my own life? Or am I a mere puppet to be played with?”

To which I respond:

There is only karma and dharma. Both can be considered the will of God.

Karma is simple action of cause and effect… you have no free will in that arena.

Dharma is action in harmony with your nature… your true will, which is one with God.  Freedom.

Dharma means action in accord with Nature.  Your true nature is one with Mother Nature.  Though rules of dharma exist and do have a valuable purpose, your true dharma cannot be imposed upon you. It must be discovered within you as you progress along the path of evolution.

You cannot just decide to be free… that can still be karmic.  Just because you think you are free or you feel free, does not mean you are free.  Most lives are more karmic than dharmic.  Most people have less freedom than they think.

As you evolve, you live more dharmicly and less karmicly.  The spiritual path is the path of evolution, is the path to freedom.  It leads to a life lived in Oneness with God… free and unbounded.
